Trusts
Trusts are used primarily to avoid probate fees, minimize state taxes, qualify for veterans or other benefits, and unique circumstances. Common unique circumstances are:
- Protecting disabled children from exploitation by others
- Protecting the independence of the elderly
- Protecting spendthrift children from themselves
Parents with a special needs child often use a Trust to provide for and protect their child after they are gone. Contrary to popular assumption, middle class or even poor families can use Trusts to protect and provide for their child. All the families need to start are an estate lawyer and a financial planner.
Because every family is unique, every estate is unique and, therefore, every Trust has to be drafted in a unique way.
As a solo practitioner, I am able to draft Trusts at a reasonable rate. I keep my overhead low and pass the savings on to my clients. Yet, because I feed my family through my practice, my commitment to quality remains. (I love referrals.)
